:D

i think week's practices was focused on midautumn songs? on tuesday did some month of maying and idk why we alto1 keep on going out of pitch during sectionals ): but it think the time that ms yin deal with us was great, cause i realised how much we really need to lift to produce the sound she wanted. and also about how we can seem like lifting on the outside but not lifting inside and it'll be useless (or is this thursday's work?) :O i think what ms yin said was really true, about how fast we can change if we are really determined to do so, and we should be confident of ourself. ms yin was also talking about letting our personalities show too, and i've decided to look more 爽 during the one month later practice muahaha ~~
after this week, i realised that we shouldn't look down on small performances like the school events, cause it is then that we prove ourselves to the school. though mid autumn performance was quite screwed cause there was lots of unexpected stuffs like no music and idk why the 南华欢迎你 started so behind etc plus it was quite different from the rehearsals, but i think it was great that we didn't just stone and do nothing about it, but continue to sing on :) oh well, at least it was a great learning experience for us!

oh and ALTOS1 FTW yay xD

♥ from TALL jiaen.

Reflection

For the past 2 practices, we spent most of the time preparing the mid-autumn celebration. But still I learn something and something to reflect on.

Firstly was what Ms.Yin told us, that the mindset is important. I mean, it is worth a try to say three things to ourselves in the morning. If it really works, perhaps we could produce better sound and Ms.Yin would have more things to work with us. If it didn't, there is nothing to lose.

Secondly, I think we should always be thankful toward Ms.Yin. She spent the whole of last practice we had to help us to prepare for the mid-autumn, help us to think of different parts of 城里的月光. Sometimes, she would scold us and gets really pissed off , but she still comes back to teach us and tries different ways to tell us how to get the sound she wanted. And remember to smile when we sings because when Ms.Yin conducts she is always smiling to us!

Yesterday's performance wasn't that good, but at least we had fun preparing and we did what we could.

Jiayous to show our identities to Ms.Yin, so she will remember each and everyone. And jiayou for EOY and try to remember all the things we've learnt in choir!

Yike's reflection

I think this week's choir practices were quite different. After Ms.Yin talked to us about having a winner attitude on Tuesday, I felt that everyone was cheered up and on that day, the whole choir were producing a bright, forward and rounded sound. Ms.Yin was also very satisfied with us, bravo! :) I felt proud that Sop 2 improved a lot, we had more people singing out loud and in tune.

As for the Mid-Autumn performance, quite pity. Yet it was not our fault, nor the infocom's. So just ignore this unhappy thing and enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival with your family.

Btw, remember the three things Ms.Yin asked us to say to ourselves in front of a mirror, "I can sing better, I can study better and I will never have pimples" :)

Don't stop believing, Nan Hua Choir, keep up the good work and we CAN do it !

Reflection :D

I was late on thursday cause of oral so i don't really know what happen earlier. When i came in, Choir was sing Ocharaka. Jap songs seems easy to sing and sounds nice but it's really easy to make mistakes. So i guess that was why Ms Yin said we kept going sharp. Ghost
I sang for a while but later went to sit behind cause i kept on coughing. Later, Choir sang month of maying. That song was fun to sing cause it kept on repeating. For me, i feel that knowing what falalaing means didn't affect how many sing it cause Ms Yin told us the meaning after learning the song. But i doubt in the future if we're going to learn a song with falala we can sing it without laughing. Vampire bat
And yeah lets not forget to give a round of applause to ourself for the attendance!! *ClapClapClap*
LOL hopefully can get 100% in the future :D
Go Choir!

2nd sep reflections, qiaoyuan

choir was great yesterday. there is only one day of practice cos tuesday was a celebration for teachers day. the attendance was quite okay. at least sick/sore throat/cannot sing people bothered to come and sit at the back. there are more people than usual who sat at the back. i was one of them. my throat was just irritating me whenever i sing... :(!!!!

PS: while seating at the back, i cant really see what is the person(c0nductor) in front doing, i mean, i was listening, but sometimes when miss yin explains some things, i din catch it, although i stood up a while, i was too short!! =( so lesson learnt, find a perfect spot next time. (that perfect spot will only be at the first row, beside jieling).

i arrived before 245 i think. charmaine gave us some mint sweets for sore throat and sick people, thanks! then choir started with warmups. mun yee took the warm ups. she kept emphasizing on support. i felt that choir was a bit soft during the warmups. after some time, we did star jumps and started singing a song. if im not wrong, it was ocharaka? after a while, miss yin came. she seemed okay, then she commented something like, "choir sing until like that still wanna continue ar?" after that she continued us with some other warm ups, until we were warmed up.

we concentrated hard on ocharaka song, practicing it for almost the whole lesson, leaving i think the last half an hour-45mins for month of maying. for the ocharaka song, miss yin asked sop 1s to sing softer, and A1s to sing louder, cos apparently they had to live without qiaole. for sop 2 and sop 1, (for the conbined 1st part) miss yin wanted us to sing the notes correctly, especially the "ta ra" part with i think a A (or C) note cos that was mainly the part that we went too high, and she wanted us to erm, sort of land on the note properly and not poking the note as we reaches it.

after that miss yin was quite irritated by us, cos we cant sing those notes correctly, and she asked lim hui to take over sectionals for S1 and 2. i went over to sing, cos i probably found out that my voice was better, but unfortunately it wasnt. but i continued to sing anyways, sing real soft, and sometimes no sound comes out, blame it on my voice! during sectionals miss yin taught us a little bit on how to reach the note, and we improved! yay!

then i went back to sit down it was combined sections and everyone sang it quite perfectly i guess. then it was somehow a 5 mins break. during the break, they gave out consent forms to be handed in today, about the next week's workshop. everyone must come!!!!!

after the break, i went back to sing, in the first row, like finally. din care if my voice was working or not, just wanna concentrate. and i could somehow sing the month of maying better then ocharaka. is it cos of the vowels? i dunno. anyway, miss yin said our english pronunciation sounded more like chinese kind. hmmm...

after choir some anouncement were like, next year's syf place isnt confirmed yet, so we have to at least getour voices prepared, cos it would be somekinda not very sound contained environmnet, like our school hall, like somehow the sound just... escaped? like if ther are  carpets and everyhing, they will absorb the sound. charmaine said that they'll sort out the attendance and late coming another day. and some seniors came back to visit, including jinyee and some other graduated seniors. charmaine asked them what will the teacher taking over the workshop be like. they said, BRING YOUR BRAINS. SO YEAH, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT...

so i guess that's about all. i a bit luo suo, so sorry XD

choir reflection for Thu. 2 Sep.

62 or more people came to last week's choir practice. We almost got our full attendance which was quite a pleasant…memorable…big surprise!! Ms Yin was happy about it and I hope we can keep it up!! I think the only thing that hindered choir's highest~ mood is that we still need to be reminded constantly of what Ms Yin has taught us. Hope everyone can find their own most effective method to keep things like 'lifting your cheeks' and 'keeping that high roof' in mind. Since we've already started to prepare for SYF, hope everyone can do their 100% try, both for choir's good and your own good. (I believe everyone hopes to participate in next year's SYF. right?) Last, cheer for Nanhua choir!!

So... Yesterday~

We were drilling Ocharaka, but A1s can't be heard, sucks. :X Couldn't help them, feel so bad><
Then the Month of Maying song, we still can't be heard, oh my my. :X

Think we need to work more on our enthusiasm towards choir, and also, work on our 'fear' of singing something wrong or out of tune. It's only when we sing loud that we can be corrected and thus, improve. (:

Thennn~ The homework on the Hungarian pronunciation thingy.. I wasn't there when the homework was given so I didn't do it. >.> But yeah.. I felt that, since there's such a good chance for people to actually use the computer, why not? Just tell your parents that you have to do your choir homework, do it, then play! :D

Jiayous Choir! xD
Reflection for 2/9/10 (:

Although I was unable to sing because I had a sore throat but I still learnt a lot of things. (:
Ms Yin talked about the 'soft pellet' technique, using your finger and almost touching your soft pellet. Hahah.
Also, on the pronunciation of the hungarian lyrics.
I think the choir sang louder than usual which is better!
I also think we should revise our songs at home as many people forget what Ms Yin has told us and then our singing not up to standard.
I think choir is improving yay!
Jiayou choir :D

-Rachel.

Reflections:
Although I was not feeling well for this thursday's choir practice but I felt that even if we are sitting down, we should pay attention to what Miss Yin is saying as well as jot down notes with the choir instead of doing something else. I am also really happy that our choir is improving, as Miss Yin said, that our voice is traveling upwards instead of backwards like we were last time. I believe if we could continue improving like this, and putting our hearts into this choir, without anyone forcing us to, I am sure we could achieve Gold With Honours for next year's SYF! Go! NHChoir!:D

REFLECTIONNNS

Sooooo, heeerrreee arrree my reeefleections for thisss weeeeek. Hee.

So, for this choir practice (thurs 'cos there was no pract on tues O:) I was one of the the sick people so i tio chosen for reflections. Oh well. It was good I was at the back because I realised I kept helping my alto 1 section by singing reallly loudly so that ms yin won't kill us, so yay. We drilled on ochakara for 2 hours, and month of maying next, although I thought that month of maying was ^&$*@&$^@%, cos for some reason alto 1 kept straying off and they were REALLY soft. And jieyin(A1) thought that it was ^&$*@&$^@% too, that's why i thought it to be ^&$*@&$^@% too. Well dear altonians of the first order, MUST JIA YOU OHKAY. i should stay at the back of the room for every pract, muahahaha. So when charmaine was talking to the choir on something, the SLs were having a little chat with Ms Yin on our doubts about teaching, and so I asked, when conducting warm ups, how do we know what the choir should do if their sound be off, because it was obvious if it was off, but I didn't know WHY. and so she said that we have to observe and listen more carefully to her and how other SLs conduct their warm ups. (realise that i feel really inspired when i listen to ms yin, like, woah...) I also asked her about alto 1s, and she says that our progress is slower than the rest of the sections, so we might have to do some tuning sessions every now and then. So do not despair! We are not all lost, because I know you can do it! Because Im your SL! If i don't have faith with y'all, i will die also! hahaha!

So i think thats all.

Choir reflection

Now it's my turn to write the choir reflection. Didn't know that it'll be mine so soon. Anyway, here it goes...

There wasn't any choir on tuesday cos there was the teachers' day celebration!!

On Thursday (which is today), I had a terrible cold.. Sigh.. :( Didn't sing with the choir today but attendance was great today!! 64/65!:D

I didn't really know what ms yin taught us today cos I fell asleep a few times:P. Heard ms yin talking about the choir's pronunciation for the Hungarian song. Actually, as I had alr gotten used to the way singaporeans speak, I didn't really think that there was anything wrong with it in the first place until ms yin emphasized on it haha:P.

--fast forwarding to the end of the practice--

Haha! Charmaine was asking us about the Hungarian homework. Turned out that many didn't do their homework.. But at least I did it!!:D ms chua was saying how frustrating it was if her students don't do their homework. Okay I guess I'll just end it right here..

Good job!

Hey girls, thanks for your reflections! First batch always abit lost of how it shld be right? So thanks for setting a good example!

So yup, the next few batches, please keep up this good standard of reflections ok! And yup, if can, make the reflections better instead of just recounting what you guys did alright? :)

Overall, I think the three of them did great!

Ok pls be reminded that over the long non-choir break, do rmb to practise your songs and go find out hungarian pronounciation ok!

Love you people and have a good weekend!
Do rmb to tell/show your teachers that you appreciate them yeah? :)

Choir Reflection.

On Thursday, I had fun in choir. Especially when we were singing Now Is The Month Of Maying. (: Because I think that song is quite nice and its very engaging. Ms Yin was in a good mood on thursday! The sectionals for the maying song isn't that bad because everyone was listening to how the song was played. After that, we learnt a Hungarian (dk how to spell) song. I find it very troublesome because I have difficulties pronouncing the words, so I felt rather irritated by myself because I cannot sing properly. But the seniors very helpful, they helped us alot. Ms Yin ask the sec 3s to slot themselves beside us and Cheryl was standing beside me. She is very nice because sometimes she will ask me if I can sing the song and I feel very happy because she's very helpful.

Overall, I had fun during thursday's practice because everyone was happy and I like the songs. :D

SHUANGYU.
Reflections for 24 Aug and 26 Aug :D

On tuesday, we finished learning the Itsutsu no Te-asobi Uta song.  Ms Yin told us to go and search for the 5 different games, watch the videos and understand the games. We were supposed to have hand signs for the song.

On thursday, we continued & finished learning Now is the month of maying.  We learnt that the double dots meant that we had to repeat again and then go on after the second time. Also, we learnt that the italian term, rit., meant that we had to slow down.  During sectionals, we had to always remember to keep our ceiling high and smile :D  We also learnt a hungarian song,

Táncnóta. We learnt the different pronunciations for the different Hungarian vowels too. We had homework, which was to find out the pronunciation for the rest of the song.

On both choir practices, we were reminded that we had to be punctual,let our SLs know when we're not coming and why for choir practice. Now, we have to let them know at least one day earlier. We were also reminded that we had to lift our cheekbones and keep smiling :D, and to use the kind of voice we sang for warm-ups for sectionals and combined too. We also were told not to depend heavily on the committee members, and that they are going to do everything for you. We all have a part to play in choir.

REFLECTION FOR 24/8 AND 26/8 =D

On tuesday,we learned the whole Itsutsu no te-asobi uta /ocharaka song(WOOTS), could only done if when everyone cooperated and work together wif the SL.
After that we've got homework-to find the handsigns and how to play the game.

On thrusday,we learnt the moth month of maying song and the hungarian song:)
den later ms yin ask abt the handsigns thing.people hu answered: those in the com and the SLs.the rest didint i think. i tink we needa be more enthusiastic ,take the initiative to like ans/speak up:) and ohh! we have homework-find the english translation for the hungarian song :)))

Other things learnt:
-apply the things tt we learnt during the warm ups when we r singing
-muz tell SL if u r gonna be late or sick or aint comin. be responsible =P
-do not depend on the comm, everyone is responsible , dun rely on them
-breathe be4 u sing
-leave your cheek boneSurprised smile :D

~~~Genie~~~Smile with tongue
24th July, Everlasting Melody
Sorry that this update is a lil late.
So yes, 24th July's over. Everlasting Melody is over. but the memories don't just end here. But our singing don't just end here. There's still all sorts of goals we have to achieve.
Generally, I feel that our performance on stage was good.
But there are still lots for us (including the commitee) to learn.
So yes, hiccups here and there throughout the night.
Have you guys learn something through this concert?
Hey Choir, you guys are awesome. & The comm really cares alot about the choir, about you guys. But at the same time, we need your help.We need you guys to do your part too. Just by moving faster and pay more attention to your surroundings helps alot. Taking initiatives and help your fellow members too.
I'm sorry I haven't do well to help you guys or do lead you guys or to make things better for you guys. Please believe me that i'm really trying my best to do all I can for you guys. Sorry that I'm always raising my voice at you guys and showing you guys the black face.
I did horribly last night. And I'll reflect and try to improve. At the same time, let's all take a few minutes to reflect what happened last night, why Ms Yin was angry with us last night and our time management last night. I really hope through this concert it was not just about fun, I really hope you guys learned smthg too.
Still in general, I could see most of you putting in your efforts, Thanks Choir. (L)
It's today!!
Just hours later, we'll be busy preparing for our concert! Make-up, hairdo, costume, our voices, everything!
How are you guys feeling today? I'm both scared and excited. Cus apparently, I scared I'll forget to bring things like tickets, make up boxes and also, worried that things will screw up for me today.
Kk so people are telling me to be positive and yes I shld be!! Today will go perfectly fine for us! Be it Nanhua, St Gabs or Hwa Chong! :)
Have you guys been revising your score? Practising to smile in front of your mirror? Walk with your heels? :)
We' ve put in so much efforts for the past i-dont-know-how-long! Today's what we've been working for!
Our very first concert. We're not just gonna sing a song or two and walk off. This time we're singing 4 + 2 (combined).
We need to prove to people that it's worth spending money on us! Through this concert,we need show them we are capable. WE CAN HAVE OUR OWN CONCERT, OUR OWN OVERSEAS TRIP. And few years down the road, OUR OWN CHOIR ROOM. :)
There are so many things we need achieve for our juniors in the future! So yes, we have to do this yeah!!
And yup, after today's concert our next goal is to get gold with honours for SYF next year ok!! :) :)
I sincerely hope through this concert, you not only made new friends, but also know more abt 'choral world' and all the techs and everythg yeah!
Alright, off to prepare for the concert!
See you girls / guys later!! :)
Xoxo,
Charmaine!
